Forter vs Riskified decides approve or decline on a checkout order
Forter Fraud Management can hand the order back as Not Reviewed. Riskified Chargeback Guarantee is the approve-or-decline product, and the chargeback cover sits on that same product.
A checkout integration is easy to misread as a chargeback desk. On 3 Oct 2026 the Forter checkout page listed three Fraud Management results: Approve, Decline, and Not Reviewed. The Riskified Chargeback Guarantee page listed two: approve and decline.
Not Reviewed is not a person in a queue. That Forter page says Forter does not review the transaction, and the store keeps the policy it already had. Riskified’s borderline path is Recover. The Chargeback Guarantee page says Recover is included in that product and is there to verify borderline orders.
The order under comparison is the decision on the card or the checkout, not the later dispute file. Forter Fraud Management is the Forter column. Payment Optimization, Dispute Management, Account Protection, and Abuse Prevention are separate Forter products. Riskified Chargeback Guarantee is the Riskified column. Dispute Resolve, Policy Protect, and Account Secure are separate Riskified products. Bot scoring is outside both columns.
What changes the signature is who carries a fraud chargeback after an approval. Forter’s pricing page offers a chargeback-guarantee agreement or an uncovered agreement. Riskified’s product page says you pay for approved orders and the product covers chargebacks. Dollar figures that actually carry a billing period are in Editions.
Overview
| Primary use case | Real-time fraud decision on a checkout or payment. The Order API result is Approve, Decline, or Not Reviewed | Real-time fraud decision on an ecommerce order, sold as Chargeback Guarantee. The product page names approve and decline |
|---|---|---|
| What you hand it | Checkout data on the Order API, including the payment method. Pre-authorization goes out before the gateway call. Post-authorization includes the gateway response | Order data after payment details are in. Synchronous merchants call Decide. Asynchronous merchants call Submit and take the decision on a notification |
| Day-to-day workflow | Your checkout acts on Approve or Decline. A Not Reviewed result stays on the policy you had before Forter. Analysts can pull context with the Analytics Agent named on the Fraud Management page | Your checkout acts on approve or decline. Recover, included in this product, verifies borderline orders. The help center points day-to-day work at Control Center |
| License/pricing | Public 12-month units are on the AWS listing for the Trust Platform. Fraud Management is one product on that listing. Dollars are in Editions | No public list price. The March 2026 investor deck bills the GMV Riskified approves. The commercial shape is in Editions |
| Who operates it | Forter returns the decision. Your team still has to act when the result is Not Reviewed. Forter hosts the service | Riskified returns the decision. Your team submits the orders you want reviewed and watches them in Control Center. Go-live follows a shadow period the help center describes |
| Main buying consideration | Do you need a third result that sends the order back to your old policy, with the guarantee as a contract choice? | Do you need the approval itself to carry the chargeback cover, with Recover inside the same product? |
We read the Forter Fraud Management page, the checkout integration page, the pricing-offer page, the 24 June 2026 agents note, and the AWS Marketplace listing, plus the Riskified Chargeback Guarantee page, the 5 Mar 2025 Adaptive Checkout release, the API integration help center, the investor FAQ, and the March 2026 investor presentation, on 3 Oct 2026. Nobody sent a test order or opened either console. The Forter capture is the Fraud Management hero: the Fraud Management label, the headline Block fraud, not customers, and a Fraud Rings panel. The Riskified capture is the Chargeback Guarantee hero: the Chargeback Guarantee label, the headline Lift revenue, minimize risk, and a phone showing Payment success. Cookie bars sat lower on both pages and are not in the crops.
Forter Fraud Management

Riskified Chargeback Guarantee

Both companies are independent on the pages checked 3 Oct 2026. Forter’s company page still tells Forter’s own story and does not describe a sale of Forter. The 24 June 2026 agents note still ships under the Forter name. Riskified’s investor FAQ says Class A shares have traded on the NYSE as RSKD since 29 July 2021, and the March 2026 investor presentation still describes that public company.
Editions and pricing
Dollar figures below are only the ones with a billing period on a page opened 3 Oct 2026. Forter’s AWS table is labeled Cost/12 months. The listing also shows a 24-month selector and a 36-month selector. Those selectors did not show a second dollar amount, so they are not printed here. A generic SaaS note on the same page mentions monthly usage fees. Leave the 12-month figure as a 12-month figure.
| How you buy it now | AWS Marketplace lists The Forter Trust Platform for Digital Commerce, sold by Forter. The same page says Forter transacts exclusively via private offers. Refunds are described as part of each custom MSA | A Riskified contract. The help center says the fee structure lives in that contract and in Control Center billing settings. No marketplace rate card was on the product page |
|---|---|---|
| Public price (3 Oct 2026) | Basic Tier, under 1 million decisions a year, $120,000 for 12 months. Premium Tier, under 5 million decisions a year, $550,000 for 12 months. A decision is one real-time evaluation of a checkout or payment. An extra-decision row is billed per use. That row has no month, year, or one-time period, so its dollar is not printed. The custom row is a contact path | No public dollar. The March 2026 deck defines billings as the amounts charged for GMV Riskified approves. The fee varies by merchant industry, end-market risk, share of GMV reviewed, and the approval rates in the commitment. The product page says you pay for approved orders |
| Chargeback on an approved order | The pricing page offers a chargeback-guarantee agreement or an uncovered agreement, and a 90-day performance guarantee. The guarantee is a contract choice on the Fraud Management agreement. Dispute Management is the representment product | Chargeback cover is part of Chargeback Guarantee. The product page says approved orders are covered. Dispute Resolve is the separate dispute-file product. The March 2026 deck draws Chargeback Guarantee and Adaptive Checkout as one block, and Dispute Resolve as another |
| Outside that product | The website names Payment Optimization, Dispute Management, Account Protection, and Abuse Prevention beside Fraud Management. The AWS listing names Identity Protection and Chargeback Recovery for the non-decision products. The 24 June 2026 note adds a Dispute Agent for chargeback files. That agent is outside this column. The Analytics Agent is the one named on the Fraud Management page | Policy Protect, Dispute Resolve, and Account Secure are separate products on the March 2026 map. Adaptive Checkout, announced 5 Mar 2025, is a configuration of Chargeback Guarantee: extra checkout friction such as CVV, a one-time password, or 3-D Secure on some orders. It stays inside this column |
| Main buying consideration | Put the tier, the 12-month term, the decision cap, private-offer status, and guarantee or uncovered on the order. The public table prices the Trust Platform | Put the approved-GMV fee, the approval commitment, and whether Adaptive Checkout is on, in the contract. There is no public dollar to copy into the order |
What the decision returns
Shared checkout coverage is not the same result set. Forter’s integration page, opened 3 Oct 2026, says the Fraud Management object is Approve, Decline, or Not Reviewed. Not Reviewed is listed for listen mode during ramp-up, a new payment method that still needs validation, missing BIN, email, or phone, a merchant IP in place of the customer IP, or a payment method that does not need a decision. The instruction on that page is to use the policy you had before the integration.
Riskified’s product page says the models return approve or decline, and that responses can be sub-second. The help center’s sandbox test offers Approve and Decline buttons. It does not print a third status on that page. Recover is the borderline path, and the product page says it is included. The 5 Mar 2025 release says Adaptive Checkout can add a check on a higher-risk order instead of a flat decline. We did not see a distinct Recover status code in the public help center.
| Values on the public page | Approve, Decline, Not Reviewed. v2 uses action. v3 uses forterDecision | Approve and decline on the product page and in the sandbox test. Recover is described as verification of borderline orders, not as a third value on that test screen |
|---|---|---|
| When the call happens | Pre-authorization, before the gateway, or post-authorization, with the gateway response included. A pre-authorization path still owes Forter the later authorization result | Submit after checkout for the asynchronous flow. Decide for synchronous merchants. A successful pre-authorization has to be reported on the Decision action |
| What approve means here | The integration page says you can capture, confirm, and invoice. Whether that approval also shifts the chargeback depends on the guarantee or uncovered choice in Editions | The product page says the approval is covered. Cancel or a full refund can reimburse the approval fee and, the help center says, also cancels the guarantee on that order |
| Before go-live | Not Reviewed includes listen mode while Forter checks that the data is accurate. The page does not print a day count for that ramp | The help center says production validation, then shadow mode, typically about 2 weeks depending on volume, then a coordinated go-live. It also asks for historical orders, generally at least 6 months. The help center says fees start at go-live. They do not start during that production validation |
| Main buying consideration | If Not Reviewed comes back, whose policy captures the payment, and does the contract cover a chargeback on that capture? | If Recover or Adaptive Checkout steps in, is that still one Chargeback Guarantee decision, or a second product on the order? |
That reply is about scoring the order at capture, so a low score from the default Shopify check is not left for a person to cancel later. It is one services comment. It is not an approval rate. The product pages opened 3 Oct 2026 do not print one.
Where they overlap
Either product can sit on a card checkout, return approve or decline, and take a pre-authorization or a post-authorization call. Both can be pointed at wallets and other methods the merchant actually sends. Overlap is shared coverage of the same order. Sending one order to both products leaves two answers. Two decisions mean two answers, and the chargeback owner has to be named in one contract.
When to use both
Run both only with a written owner for each order stream. A cohort already on Riskified’s covered approval can sit next to a cohort on Forter’s uncovered agreement. A short move from one product to the other is the other case. End that window by assigning each stream to one product. Pointing both products at one order, so either might approve, repeats the overlap case above.
Choose Forter Fraud Management when the checkout needs Approve, Decline, or Not Reviewed, and the contract says whether that is the chargeback-guarantee agreement or the uncovered agreement, using the 12-month Trust Platform units in Editions if that marketplace table is the one being signed. Choose Riskified Chargeback Guarantee when the approval should carry the chargeback cover, Recover stays inside that product, and Adaptive Checkout is only the 5 Mar 2025 configuration named above. Leave Forter Payment Optimization, Dispute Management, Account Protection, Abuse Prevention, and the Dispute Agent, and Riskified Dispute Resolve, Policy Protect, and Account Secure, on their own orders.
FAQs
Which Forter product is this?
Forter Fraud Management, the checkout decision. The integration page returns Approve, Decline, or Not Reviewed. Payment Optimization, Dispute Management, Account Protection, Abuse Prevention, and the Dispute Agent from the 24 June 2026 note are other orders. The Analytics Agent is the assistant named on the Fraud Management page.
Which Riskified product is the column?
Chargeback Guarantee, the approve-or-decline product, with Recover included. Adaptive Checkout is the 5 Mar 2025 configuration of that product. Dispute Resolve, Policy Protect, and Account Secure are separate products on the March 2026 map.
What should the order say about price?
Editions is the only place the dollar figures appear. Forter’s public units are 12-month Trust Platform contracts, and the listing says purchases go through private offers. The 24-month and 36-month selectors had no second dollar. Riskified does not print a public dollar. The March 2026 deck bills approved GMV, and the fee varies by merchant. Do not turn the 12-month Forter figure into a monthly rate.
Is Not Reviewed a manual review queue?
No. Forter’s integration page says Forter does not review that transaction, and the store uses the policy it had before the integration. Riskified’s public sandbox test shows Approve and Decline. Recover is the borderline path inside Chargeback Guarantee. The product page describes it. The sandbox test screen shows Approve and Decline.
Are these still independent companies?
Yes, on the pages checked 3 Oct 2026. Ownership is the paragraph under the screenshots. The column names are Forter Fraud Management and Riskified Chargeback Guarantee.
Is this a hands-on bake-off?
No. The comparison uses the Forter and Riskified pages, the AWS listing, and the March 2026 Riskified presentation opened 3 Oct 2026, plus one Shopify Community reply from 17 Sep 2025. Nobody sent an order or opened a console.
