Clutch Security vs Entro for NHI discovery and secrets governance
Clutch Security when Universal NHI discovery, Identity Lineage, and Zero Trust controls across cloud, SaaS, and on-prem systems are the gap. Entro when secrets discovery with write-path rotation/remediation and NHIDR in code and CI/CD matter, now on the SailPoint path without requiring a full SailPoint suite buy.
Security still opens the week with the same failure: an API key or service account that nobody owns, still live after the last rotation ticket, with no map of who consumes it or what it can reach.
Between these two, Clutch Security centers Universal NHI discovery on an Identity Lineage graph across cloud, SaaS, and on-prem, with Clutch’s first-party Zero Knowledge Architecture (sensitive customer data and secrets stay in the customer environment; Clutch SaaS sees metadata/insights rather than holding credential material) and a published Universal NHI MCP Server for natural-language query of that graph. Entro centers secrets and credential sprawl: more than 1,200 secret types across code, CI/CD, vaults, and collab tools, ownership attribution, idle-secret cleanup, and NHIDR behavioral detection. SailPoint completed the Entro acquisition on 29 June 2026, with Entro still sold as a standalone offering while Agentic Fabric integration continues.
Match the queue you still fail: govern NHIs with lineage and Zero Trust controls as an independent platform, or dig secrets out of the SDLC with NHIDR under SailPoint.
| Job | Universal NHI discovery and governance: Identity Lineage graph, risk scoring, Zero Trust / ephemeral migration, MCP query across cloud, SaaS, and on-prem | NHI and secrets security: 1,200+ credential types, secret-usage lineage, ownership attribution, idle secrets, NHIDR, agent/MCP risk on the SailPoint path |
|---|---|---|
| How a bad day closes | An NHI is found with origin, owner, storage, consumers, and reachable resources in one lineage record; risk is scored and remediated or moved toward ephemeral controls | A buried secret is found in code, CI/CD, vault, or collab; owner is attributed; idle or anomalous use is flagged via NHIDR; rotate, revoke, or decommission |
| Day-to-day workflow | Lineage gaps, orphaned or overprivileged NHIs, agent inventory, remediation queues across terrains | Exposed and idle secrets, owner tickets, NHIDR alerts, unsanctioned agents or MCP servers |
| Deploy | Agentless API integrations (100+ named on first-party); Zero Knowledge Architecture keeps customer data in-network per Clutch | Agentless discovery across 70+ cloud, SCM, CI/CD, vault, and collab sources; standalone now, SailPoint Agentic Fabric integration in progress |
| License/pricing | Sales-quoted; no public dollar SKU on clutch.security (checked 30 Sep 2026) | Sales / SailPoint quote; no public self-serve dollar table on entro.security (checked 30 Sep 2026) |
| Who operates it | Identity, cloud security, and SecOps owning NHI inventory and Zero Trust controls for machine and agent identities | Identity and AppSec plus DevOps for secrets in the SDLC; SailPoint identity owners after the close |
We reviewed clutch.security product and blog pages, entro.security product pages, SailPoint’s Entro close press release, and live community threads the same day (30 Sep 2026). We did not run either product in a paid tenant, so this is not a hands-on benchmark. Clutch remains independent. Entro is a completed SailPoint acquisition with standalone availability during platform integration.
Clutch Security

Entro

Clutch’s recent first-party product signal is the Universal NHI MCP Server built on Identity Lineage for natural-language query and remediation across environments. Entro’s decisive 2026 signal is the SailPoint close and the secrets-plus-NHIDR packaging inside Agentic Fabric, not a freemium checkout.
Editions and pricing
Neither vendor posts a public self-serve dollar card. The invoice question is who you buy from and whether the product stays independent or folds into a larger identity suite.
| Ownership (30 Sep 2026) | Independent. Series A $20M in Jan 2025 (SignalFire lead; total funding $28.5M per first-party) | SailPoint completed acquisition 29 Jun 2026. Entro remains available as a standalone offering; buying Entro does not automatically require a broader SailPoint Identity Security Cloud purchase |
|---|---|---|
| How you buy it now | Demo / sales on clutch.security | SailPoint customers: standalone Entro offerings available while native Agentic Fabric integration continues; otherwise sales-led |
| Public units | No public dollar table verified on first-party pages | No public dollar table verified on first-party pages |
| What the invoice covers | Enterprise Universal NHI platform scope: discovery, Identity Lineage, posture, detection/response, Zero Trust controls, MCP access | NHI and secrets platform scope: discovery breadth, lineage, ownership, NHIDR, agent/MCP risk; packaging under SailPoint over time |
If procurement needs a published usage meter this week, neither first-party marketing site supplies one. Budget from a quote, and ask whether Entro will invoice through SailPoint for your region.
How discovery and lineage work
| Discovery center | Continuous inventory of NHIs, agents, and secrets across concrete systems (cloud IAM, SaaS apps, on-prem) via agentless APIs into an Identity Lineage graph | Deep scan for NHIs and 1,200+ secret/credential types across cloud, code, CI/CD, vaults, registries, and collab tools, with ownership and usage lineage |
|---|---|---|
| Lineage model | Identity Lineage graph: origin, associated people, storage, consumers, and resources reachable from each entity | Lineage map indexed on secret and credential usage: which app, script, or agent uses a specific secret at a moment |
| Context for agents | Agent and NHI inventory on the same lineage model; MCP Server queries the graph in natural language | Agent and MCP mapping tied to downstream secrets and tools those agents actually use; NHIDR watches behavior |
| Architecture note | Zero Knowledge Architecture (first-party): sensitive customer data and secrets stay in the customer network; Clutch SaaS sees metadata/insights for governance rather than holding credential material | Agentless SaaS discovery with ContextIQ / SLM-assisted remediation language on SailPoint materials |
That naming gap is why RFPs that only say “NHI platform” still need a lineage question. Between these two, ask whether Monday’s missing map is the full Identity Lineage record for every machine identity across terrains, or the secret-usage path through code and pipelines that Entro indexes.
Detection and remediation
| Risk and posture | Contextualized findings, risk scoring, and actionable recommendations on the lineage graph | Posture on privileges, usage, and activity; idle and orphaned secrets flagged for cleanup |
|---|---|---|
| Detection shape | Real-time detection and response language plus Zero Trust verification and migration off standing secrets | NHIDR continuously monitors agents and NHIs for behavioral anomalies and token abuse |
| Remediation path | Automated workflows, ownership from lineage, ephemeral / dynamic control narrative; MCP-assisted query; auditability via lineage graph rather than secret write-back as the center | Owner-attributed tickets with rotate/revoke/decommission write-path remediation, SLM-suggested fixes on SailPoint materials; NHIDR for abuse after discovery |
| Who writes the next step | Security owns NHI risk policy; platform/eng consume lineage-backed fixes without another spreadsheet | Security owns NHIDR and posture; DevOps owns secret removal from pipelines and repos |
That standing-credential failure is the shared pain. Clutch answers it by pushing discovery into Zero Trust and ephemeral controls on the NHI graph. Entro answers it by finding the plaintext secret where it hides, attributing an owner, and watching abuse with NHIDR.
Where they overlap
Both inventory non-human identities and secrets. Both talk lineage, ownership, agents, and MCP-era risk. Both are agentless SaaS products aimed at identity and cloud security teams. An RFP that only says “NHI discovery and governance” will get two adjacent demos. The remaining split is Universal Identity Lineage as an independent vendor versus secrets-depth plus NHIDR on a SailPoint invoice path – plus what each product discovers, what leaves the customer environment, how ownership is attributed, and whether remediation is direct or recommend-only.
Separate the jobs. Secret discovery (where credentials live), rotation (credential replace), revocation (kill active use), and access governance (who should still hold the NHI) are not one feature. Clutch’s published center is Identity Lineage and Zero Knowledge deployment claims across terrains; Entro’s published center is secrets-depth discovery with ownership attribution, idle cleanup, and NHIDR – remediation may be direct write-path on some integrations and recommend-only on others. Confirm what leaves the customer environment under Clutch’s Zero Knowledge Architecture versus what Entro’s connectors send to its cloud for analysis.
Broader NHI shortlists sit on non-human identity tools. Other identity compares live under Compare.
When to use both
Running Clutch and Entro as two full NHI discovery platforms on the same inventory is usually waste. The narrow split that shows up is Clutch as the cross-terrain Identity Lineage and Zero Trust NHI layer, with Entro (or SailPoint Agentic Fabric plus Entro) as the deep secrets and NHIDR layer for code and CI/CD. If one team owns both queues, pick the ownership and remediation path you already staff.
Choose Clutch Security when you need independent Universal NHI discovery with Identity Lineage and Zero Knowledge deployment claims. Choose Entro when you need secrets-depth discovery, ownership, idle cleanup, and NHIDR under SailPoint.
FAQs
Was Entro acquired?
Yes. SailPoint completed the Entro Security acquisition on 29 June 2026. Entro remains available as a standalone offering while Agentic Fabric integration continues. That ownership path is separate from whether buyers must purchase broader SailPoint Identity Security Cloud modules. Clutch remains independent.
Does Clutch replace Entro’s secrets scanning?
Not by default. Between these two, Clutch centers Universal NHI Identity Lineage and Zero Trust controls across terrains. Entro centers deep secret and credential discovery (1,200+ types) plus NHIDR. Teams that already have a lineage inventory but still find keys in pipelines often still need secrets-depth coverage.
Does Entro replace a Universal NHI lineage platform?
Entro’s published strength is secrets sprawl, ownership, and NHIDR, now inside SailPoint’s broader identity story. Clutch’s published center is Identity Lineage across cloud, SaaS, and on-prem with Zero Knowledge Architecture and an NHI MCP Server. If the weekly failure is “we cannot answer who owns this service account and what it reaches,” compare that lineage question explicitly in the PoC.
What public prices should buyers note?
Neither Clutch nor Entro posted a self-serve dollar SKU on first-party marketing pages checked 30 Sep 2026. Budget from a sales quote. For Entro, ask whether the invoice routes through SailPoint for your account.
