When to pick Anaplan over Workday Adaptive Planning
Per-application Analyst access and a separate CoModeler subscription, against a 30-day trial and a package marked Pricing varies.
Pick Anaplan when a planner who is not an AI Admin must not open Agent Studio. On 28 Sep 2026 Analyst became available on the Agentic Platform, and only that role can open the console.
Pick Workday Adaptive Planning when the purchase is the package on the pricing page. Workday introduced Adaptive Decision Intelligence in Workday Adaptive Planning on 27 May 2026. That choice is enterprise connected planning against Adaptive’s finance-owned planning inside Workday.
Overview
| Primary use case | Planning applications and models, with named Analyst configurations for finance, supply chain, sales, and workforce | Budgeting, forecasting, and what-if scenarios on the planning package, plus workforce and operational planning on the product overview. Close sits on the separate consolidation package |
|---|---|---|
| Day-to-day workflow | An AI Admin enables an Analyst for an application. A workspace administrator uses CoModeler, in a development model, under a separate subscription | Process management, OfficeConnect, and personal what-if scenarios are on the included list. A natural-language question stays inside the same security and access rules as the plan |
| Main buying consideration | Whether the quote names an AI Admin and adds the separate CoModeler subscription | Whether the order is the base package or Close and Consolidation. The base package is marked Pricing varies |
Anaplan’s trust center lists SOC 1 Type 2 and SOC 2 Type 2 beside the software-as-a-service listing. Workday’s pricing page includes single sign-on, an integration platform, OfficeConnect, 24/7 support, and Workday Community, and it says the product can run whether or not you already own other Workday products.
We reviewed Anaplan’s Agent Studio page updated 1 Oct 2026, the CoModeler note updated 2 Sep 2026, the 13 May 2025 application announcement, the trust center, the AWS Marketplace listing, and the 21 Jan 2026 McCarthy announcement, plus Workday’s Adaptive Planning pricing page, product overview, 27 May 2026 release, 14 Sep 2026 finance blog, and the acquisition note on the why page.
Anaplan

Workday Adaptive Planning

Editions and pricing
On 4 Oct 2026 the Anaplan amount below is the marketplace’s representative 12-month contract, not a per-person rate. The Workday pricing page does not print an amount.
| How it is sold | AWS Marketplace lists one contract dimension, Connected Planning, billed by units under a 12-month contract. The displayed cost is USD 750,000 for a representative customer. The description is users, workspace, and access to the product. The listing says the figure varies with users, solutions, configuration options, and contract duration, and that price scales with the quantity of units committed. Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Delivery method is software as a service. There are no separate tiers on that listing | A free trial for 30 days. The base package is marked Pricing varies. Close and Consolidation is a separate package. The pricing page does not print a currency amount for either paid package |
|---|---|---|
| Names on the public page | The listing name is Connected Planning. CoModeler is a separate subscription, activated per workspace in Agent Studio. Analyst usage is measured in credits on the Agent Studio page. That page does not print a credit price | Package titles on the pricing page are Workday Adaptive Planning and Workday Adaptive Planning Close and Consolidation. On 14 Sep 2026 a Workday finance blog said Workday Adaptive Planning is now Adaptive from Workday. The pricing page still uses the package titles above |
| What moves the order | Unit quantity on the 12-month contract, plus a yes or no on the separate CoModeler subscription. The marketplace unit description does not name CoModeler, so the USD 750,000 figure is not described here as including that subscription | The trial includes 30-day access, a guided walkthrough of core planning capabilities, and a step-by-step guide for planning, reporting, and dashboards. The paid included list adds an unlimited audit trail, a production instance, a non-production instance, and secondary instances based on the contract |
| Main buying consideration | Treat USD 750,000 as the listing’s representative 12-month Connected Planning contract, not as a per-person rate and not as a second edition | Ask which package title is on the quote |
Connected planning
The 28 Sep 2026 availability note is the control for who may turn Analyst on. Shared words such as workforce planning are overlap. A named Analyst configuration on the Agent Studio page is not proof the other product has no workforce plan.
| Where plans are modeled | Agent Studio, updated 1 Oct 2026, can enable Finance Analyst, Supply Chain Analyst, Sales Analyst, and Workforce Analyst for applications, and Analyst for a custom model. The 13 May 2025 announcement added Segmentation and Scoring, Go-to-Market Capacity Planning, Integrated Business Planning, and Merchandise Financial Planning | The product overview names financial planning, workforce planning, and operational planning. Workforce planning on that page aligns finance, sales, HR, marketing, and IT. Those names are overlap, not a finding that one product lacks the other |
|---|---|---|
| Who enables the agent | Only the AI Admin role can open Agent Studio. Analyst on the Agentic Platform is available as of 28 Sep 2026. Before enabling, review model roles, model access, selective access, and Dynamic Cell Access, then contact the Customer Success Business Partner. The page says there is no configuration other than switching Analyst on for an application. Extra context goes in the Notes field of a line item | Adaptive Decision Intelligence, introduced 27 May 2026, follows the same security and access rules the team already uses. The release does not name an AI Admin role. That silence is not a finding that no admin gate exists |
| What a model change requires | CoModeler, help note updated 2 Sep 2026, is an entitled service and a separate subscription. A workspace administrator uses it. It is activated per workspace in Agent Studio, available in Polaris and Classic workspaces, and the note says to use it for changes in development environments. It can recognize a model in deployed mode | Personal what-if scenarios and unlimited versions are on the included list. The pricing page does not describe a development-only mode for model edits |
| Main buying consideration | Whether Finance, Supply Chain, Sales, and Workforce Analyst configurations must be switched on per application by an AI Admin | Whether workforce and operational planning on the overview are enough, or the order also needs the named Anaplan Analyst configurations |
Finance-owned planning
The pricing page is the control for the paid included list. The 27 May 2026 release is the control for what an approved scenario writes back. The 14 Sep 2026 blog is the later availability sentence, not a second product.
| What the record includes | The trust center lists SOC 1 Type 2 and SOC 2 Type 2. Analyst usage is measured in credits, with a Usage tab for AI administrators | The included list names an unlimited audit trail, unlimited versions, unlimited what-if scenarios, personal what-if scenarios, process management, transaction reporting, active dashboards, and no data limits |
|---|---|---|
| What an approved scenario stores | The 21 Jan 2026 McCarthy announcement describes scenario planning across finance, operations, and HR. It does not describe a commit step with an approval chain | The 27 May 2026 release says an approved scenario is committed back to the governed plan with assumptions, data sources, and the approval chain intact. The same release keeps a record of the data and assumptions behind each scenario |
| Where it runs | The AWS listing’s delivery method is software as a service. CoModeler changes stay in development environments | The pricing page includes a production instance and a non-production instance, says the product is available in the AWS Marketplace against an annual AWS commitment, and says it can be used whether or not you have other Workday products. The overview FAQ gives an average deployment time of 4.5 months |
| Main buying consideration | Whether model edits must stay in a development environment under the CoModeler note | Whether the requirement is that 27 May 2026 commit, which the 14 Sep 2026 blog describes as generally available after the release had limited it to an early adopter program |
Favor Anaplan when the documented requirement is an AI Admin switching Analyst on for an application, with CoModeler limited to development models under its own subscription. Favor Workday Adaptive Planning when the documented requirement is the 27 May 2026 commit of an approved scenario back to the governed plan with assumptions, data sources, and the approval chain, on a package whose included list names an unlimited audit trail.
FAQs
What does the 30-day trial include?
The pricing page says the trial is free for 30 days and includes 30-day access, a guided walkthrough of core planning capabilities, and a step-by-step guide for planning, reporting, and dashboards. The unlimited audit trail, the production instance, and the non-production instance are on the paid included list, not in that trial blurb.
Does every Anaplan workspace include CoModeler?
No. The note updated 2 Sep 2026 says CoModeler is an entitled service and requires a separate subscription. A Customer Success Business Partner handles that subscription. Activation is per workspace in Agent Studio, and the user must be a workspace administrator.
Is Adaptive Decision Intelligence still an early adopter feature?
The 27 May 2026 release said it was available to customers in an early adopter program and expected broader availability later in 2026. The 14 Sep 2026 finance blog says Decision Intelligence, along with Planning Hubs, Adaptive Data Foundation, advanced workflows, and the integrations it names, is generally available.
Did Workday acquire Adaptive Insights?
Yes. Workday’s why page says it acquired Adaptive Insights in 2018 and that the product is now called Workday Adaptive Planning.
Does a missing phrase on one product page mean the other product has no equivalent?
No. The 27 May 2026 release does not use the title AI Admin. That is not a finding that Workday Adaptive Planning has no access rule. The same release says Adaptive Decision Intelligence follows the security and access rules the team already uses. Anaplan’s Agent Studio page does not use the phrase unlimited audit trail. That is not a finding that Anaplan stores no history. The trust center lists SOC 1 Type 2 and SOC 2 Type 2 instead.
